چکیده

In this paper, we analyse a single server polling model with two queues. Customers arrive at the two queues according to two independent Poisson processes. There is a single server that serves both queues with generally distributed service times. The server spends an exponentially distributed amount of time in each queue. After the completion of this residing time, the server instantaneously switches to the other queue, i.e., there is no switch-over time. For this polling model we derive the steady-state marginal workload distribution, as well as heavy traffic and heavy tail asymptotic results. Furthermore, we also calculate the joint queue length distribution for the special case of exponentially distributed service times using singular perturbation analysis. 2010 AMS Mathematics Subject Classification: Primary: 68M20; Secondary: 90B22.

A two-queue polling model with two priority levels in the first queue

In this paper we consider a single-server cyclic polling system consisting of two queues. Between visits to successive queues, the server is delayed by a random switch-over time. Two types of customers arrive at the first queue: high and low priority customers. For this situation the following service disciplines are considered: gated, globally gated, and exhaustive. We study the cycle time dis...

Analysis of a polling system modeling QoS differentiation in WLANs

This paper investigates a polling system with a random polling scheme, a 1-limited service discipline and deterministic service requirement modeling WLANs with QoS differentation capability. The system contains high and low priority queues that are distinguished via the probability of being served next. We propose a new iteration algorithm to approximate the waiting time of customers in the hig...

On open problems in polling systems

In the present paper we address two open problems concerning polling systems, viz., queueing systems consisting of multiple queues attended by a single server that visits the queues one at a time. The first open problem deals with a system consisting of two queues, one of which has gated service, while the other receives 1-limited service. The second open problem concerns polling systems with g...

M/g/1 Polling Systems with Random Visit Times

We consider a polling system where a group of an infinite number of servers visits sequentially a set of queues. When visited, each queue is attended for a random time. Arrivals at each queue follow a Poisson process, and the service time of each individual customer is drawn from a general probability distribution function. Thus, each of the queues comprising the system is, in isolation, an M/G...
